The PGA Tour is the premier professional golf circuit in the United States, featuring many of the world's top golfers competing in tournaments held across the country. From January to September, the PGA Tour schedule is packed with tournaments that offer millions of dollars in prize money, attracting the best players from around the world.

In this guest post, we'll take a closer look at the PGA Tour, including its history, schedule, and format. We'll also examine the players who have dominated the tour over the years, as well as the key tournaments that make up the tour's schedule.

The History of the PGA Tour

The PGA Tour traces its roots back to the early 20th century, when a group of professional golfers formed the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) in 1916. The PGA was established to create a standardized set of rules and regulations for professional golfers, as well as to promote the game to the public.

The first official PGA Tour event was held in 1929, and since then, the tour has grown to become one of the most popular and lucrative sports leagues in the world. Today, the PGA Tour is home to over 800 players from around the world, who compete in more than 50 tournaments each year.

The PGA Tour Schedule

The PGA Tour schedule begins in January and runs through September, with most events taking place on Thursday through Sunday. The tour's schedule is divided into several segments, including the "West Coast Swing," the "Florida Swing," and the "Texas Swing." In addition, the tour also includes several major championships, such as the Masters, U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

One of the most exciting aspects of the PGA Tour is its diversity of venues. With events taking place all across the United States, the tour visits a wide range of golf courses, from historic venues such as Augusta National, to newer courses like TPC Scottsdale. The tour also visits many different geographic regions of the US, from the Hawaiian islands and California, to Florida, and the North East or New England. This variety provides a good opportunity for the players to adapt to different types of golf course conditions and terrains.

The Format of PGA Tour Events

Most PGA Tour events are stroke play tournaments, where players complete 72 holes and the golfer with the lowest score wins. In stroke play, each hole is played in numerical order, and the golfer who completes the course in the fewest strokes is declared the winner. The PGA Tour also includes a limited number of match play events, where players compete head-to-head in a bracket-style format until one player is declared the winner.

The PGA Tour also features a unique format known as the FedEx Cup, which is a season-long points race that culminates with a series of playoff events. The FedEx Cup is designed to create excitement and interest in the tour's later events, and to determine a season-long champion. Points are earned by players throughout the season based on their finishes in individual events, with the top players advancing to the playoff events. The player who earns the most points over the course of the season is declared the FedEx Cup champion and earns a large cash prize.
