If you are a beginning golfer, you should be fully aware of the importance of golf etiquette in the Official Rules of Golf. For the inexperienced player, golf etiquette can be a minefield, so it pays to know the proper way to behave if you want to remain welcome on the course.
There are many levels of golf etiquette that junior golfers and beginners must learn. In addition to those related to the game, golfers should learn how to conduct themselves on the course. It is a good idea to start etiquette lessons early so that the information becomes embedded, and young golfers can focus more on their training.
When it comes to behaving on any golf course, whether private or public, there are basic rules to remember to show respect for yourself, the course and other golfers. While it is polite to play quickly to allow groups behind you to move forward, refrain from running toward your ball or moving in front of someone as you go to hit your next shot. Remember that golf etiquette exists not only to show respect, but also to promote awareness and safety.
In this new BluBall lesson, we want to start these golf etiquette tips with a super important tip if you want to become an all-round golf pro, and that is: the importance of respecting the Golf Course, your fellow players and the golf game.
Follow these tips to practice respect in the golf course :
- Be at the golf course 20-30 minutes before your tee time to pay, warm up and practice a few putts. If you're late or don't show, you put your golf playing partners in a stressed state, and it spoils the beginning of their round. You also won't be invited back if you don't show.
- Don't cancel last tee times minute. The only reason to cancel a golf game last minute is if you're dead. Otherwise, be there! You will lose a lot of golf friends if you flake.
- Leave the golf course as you would like to find it by repairing pitch-marks, replacing divots and raking bunkers.
- Respect your fellow players — be sportsmanlike and polite, stay by the green to watch them hole out, and avoid distracting them.
- Respect the Game — by knowing the rules and etiquette of golf.
